Digital driving licence – usage, requirements and limits

The digital driving licence in the Førerkort app gives you an electronic proof of entitlement in Norway. It works during roadside checks, yet the plastic card remains mandatory in several situations.

How to activate the app

  1. Download «Førerkort» from the App Store or Google Play.

Where does the digital licence work?

  • Police checks in Norway: Officers scan the QR code shown in the app.
  • Norwegian car rentals: Many companies accept the app; confirm in advance.
  • Private practice driving: Show the app to the supervising driver to confirm entitlement.
  • Insurance claims: Send a screenshot as temporary evidence while the case is processed.
